Gleich zu Beginn des Jahres gibt es schöne Neuigkeiten: Wir sind letzte Woche umgezogen und arbeiten nun aus unserem neuen Büro mitten in der Hamburger Innenstadt. Der Blick ist einfach großartig – auf die Elbphilharmonie, das Mahnmal St. Nikolai und den Michel. Wir freuen uns sehr über diesen neuen Ort, auch wenn es noch einiges zu tun gibt, bis alles vollständig eingerichtet ist.
Wie gewohnt werden wir Ihnen alle wichtigen Informationen zeitnah in unserem ersten E-Newsletter des Jahres zukommen lassen. Darin berichten wir wie gewohnt über die Universität Haifa und unseren Fördererkreis.
Schon jetzt möchten wir Sie herzlich bitten, den Mitgliedsbeitrag für 2026 anzuweisen, sofern kein SEPA-Lastschriftmandat vorliegt. SEPA-Mitgliedsbeiträge ziehen wir – wie immer – automatisch zum 1.7. ein. Wer uns ein SEPA-Mandat erteilen möchte, kann dieses sehr gerne ausfüllen und mir zurücksenden, alle Formulare in der Rubrik Mitgliedschaft.

| THE UNIVERSITY OF HAIFA UK INVITES YOU TO JOIN THIS URGENT WEBINAR HOSTED BY OUR COLLEAGUES AT THE AMERICAN FRIENDS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF HAIFA As Iran once again dominates global headlines, events inside the country are evolving at extraordinary speed — reshaping internal power dynamics, regional stability, and international policy calculations in real time. From widespread public unrest and regime crackdowns to questions about elite cohesion, security forces, and the Islamic Republic’s future direction — alongside growing regional and international pressure — the situation in Iran remains fluid, uncertain, and deeply consequential. For policymakers, analysts, and observers alike, separating short-term volatility from deeper structural change has never been more challenging — or more urgent. To help make sense of these developments, American Friends of the University of Haifa is pleased to host a timely conversation featuring two leading experts affiliated with the University’s Ezri Center for Iran and Persian Gulf Studies, one of Israel’s foremost academic hubs dedicated to the study of Iran and the Persian Gulf. The program will feature Dr. Thamar Gindin, a linguist and researcher whose work focuses on Iranian society, language, political culture, and media, alongside Dr. Efrat Sopher, Chair of the Ezri Center’s Board of Advisers, Co-Chair of the University of Haifa UK and Head of the World Jewish Congress International Taskforce on Iran and Islamist Extremism. Together, Dr. Gindin and Dr. Sopher will offer a complementary, real-time assessment of the unfolding situation — examining public sentiment and protest dynamics inside Iran, regime behaviour and messaging, and the broader implications for Israel, the region and the broader geopolitical landscape. This conversation will focus not only on what is happening now, but on how to interpret rapidly changing events without losing sight of the longer historical, social, and institutional forces shaping Iran today.  |
